Dr. Bonnie O’Neill comes to us from the University of Washington-St. Louis, where she earned her PhD in American literature, with a specialty in nineteenth-century poetry and fiction.  These interests manifest themselves in Bonnie’s recent publications on Emerson, Fanny Fern, Whitman, and the idea of literary celebrity. Dr. Ginger Pizer completed her PhD in linguistics and language acquisition at the University of Texas at Austin, where she focused on sociolinguistics and signed language in family contexts.  A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Pizer currently conducts research on language acquisition in families with deaf parents and hearing children. Dr. Donald Shaffer comes to MSU from Dominican University in Chicago, where he has taught the last several years.  With his PhD from the University of Chicago, Dr. Shaffer specializes in African American literature and will play a key role in the university’s new African American Studies Program.
